XA SERIES

The coloured XA's are much rarer than the plain black ones; that said there seem to plenty of Heart Red about (in both XA2 and XA3). Red versions come with matching A11 flash and red coloured handstrap but housed in a standard black plastic XA box. Heart Red appears on the outer box. Next rarest is the blue version; these were not given a special designation as far as I know. They too come with matching A11 and blue handstrap. The Urban White seems the rarest of the non-commemorative issues and again comes with matching A11 and white handstrap. The pink version is extremely rare and was given as gifts to mark the 60th anniversary of Olympus 1919 - 1979. Pink versions will be restricted to the just a few hundred made; they have no serial numbers and come in a special dark red box with heavily embossed OLYMPUS in silver on the top. The box linings are dark red plush finish and the pink version comes with matching A11 and a maroon handstrap.

When looking for fakes check the finish to the metalized parts such as the name badge on the top plate (black on red and blue models, metalic white on Urban White and metalic pink on pink model) and the zone focus plate (black on all but the pink model which is dusky pink/brown metalic.) Also check for paint in-fill on small areas like the ASA range (should be white) and FLASH below which sholud be light blue on all except the Urban White which is darker blue. Yes, before you ask, I have seen one fake Pink version and a green XA.
